Most US buyers are shopping against the same two frameworks: the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which doesn’t specify a technical standard but is generally litigated against WCAG 2.1 or 2.2 AA in practice, and Section 508 for anyone selling to federal agencies. We ranked these five with that in mind, weighing standards coverage, whether human review backs up the automation, and how each vendor documents its remediation trail if you ever need to show a court or a customer what was actually fixed.

We looked at explicit ADA and Section 508 documentation, whether a tool offers manual or human-reviewed testing rather than automation alone, company track record and transparency (including any public regulatory history), and pricing that scales sensibly from a small site to an enterprise one.

Where a Europe-first tool like Wawsome fits

Wawsome, the EU-focused widget-plus-monitoring platform we cover elsewhere on this site, isn’t on this list. Its own documentation maps explicitly to EAA and EN 301 549 requirements for Romania, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Austria and the UK, but doesn’t make an equivalent US-specific case the way the five tools above do. If your traffic is overwhelmingly American, one of the tools ranked here is the closer fit; if you sell into both the US and the EU, it’s worth comparing Wawsome directly against whichever of these five you’re considering.

What still needs a human

None of the five tools above claim to fully automate compliance, and you should be skeptical of any vendor that does. The 2026 WebAIM Million study found 56.1 average detectable errors per home page, a number that automated scanning alone reliably catches only part of. Checkout flows, custom form components and dynamically updated content are the parts most likely to need a manual look regardless of which widget you run.
